Cowboy boots have always been Brittney's shoe of choice. An animal lover to the core, her parents didn't know what they were signing up for when they put her in a summer horse camp at the age of ten. She was hooked. The horse bug bit her. Hard.
Horses quickly became her true passion. At twelve Brittney started working at a local stable, cleaning stalls and leading trail rides. At thirteen her parents finally broke down and bought her a horse – a spunky bay grade mare named Austie. Brittney grew up on Austie’s back and, when it came time to go to college, she packed her mare along too.
Brittney and her family now live in their own piece of heaven in the Oregon countryside. They stay busy with their menagerie of silly horses, cackling chickens, two naughty goats, one scheming cat, and an unbelievably adorable doggie (& grand-dog). When Brittney isn’t writing, she’s riding or reading. And she wishes she could do all three at the same time.
random tid-bits about brittney joy…
What is your favorite breed? -- I love ALL horses, but have a special place in my heart for Paints and Friesians. I grew up around paints and stock horses and can't resist the beautiful patterns of the paint coat. My favorite pattern is the classic bay tobiano ... like my beautiful, Stella. And, who can resist a Friesian?? I just want to brush their long, thick manes!
What was the first horse you rode? -- I was first introduced to horses when my parents signed me up for a horse summer camp and I was assigned a wonderful, patient leopard appaloosa mare named Paulette. I can still picture her perfectly -- after summer camp, I started taking lessons on that sweet, sweet mare.
What kind of riding do you do? -- I grew up riding and showing western pleasure (and going on lots of trail rides). In college, I dabbled in reining and continued to show in western pleasure. In the past decade, I've fallen in love with Cowboy Dressage and that's mainly what I focus on now with my gelding, Cheli. I also love to go trail riding any chance I get.
What's your favorite horse movie? -- I can't pick just one ... The Horse Whisperer & Wild Horse, Wild Ride! Plus, I love Heartland!
Favorite non-horsie movie? -- All time fave ... Dirty Dancing!
What's your favorite TV show? -- I'm a bit obsessed with reality TV ... I love The Voice, Real Housewives (Beverly Hills & New York are my fave), VanderPump Rules and all shows related to The Bachelor. I also adore Hallmark Movies!
When did you start writing? -- English was always my favorite class and I really started writing in high school. When I was sixteen my Mom gave me a diary with a lock and key for Christmas. I started writing all of my happiest and saddest moments in that diary. It was a release for me. By the time I graduated high school, I had two diaries filled with stories.
